Wild Horses Could Not Drag Me Away…

Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Dallas, Texas for some business. Well, you may be asking, how can a photographer travel anywhere and not take a few ‘non work’ pictures? I confess. I did. Take some non work pictures.

I visited a town called Las Colinas, which translates to ‘The Hills’. I wonder if they had to change the name to avoid a lawsuit from MTV? Anyhow, located within Irving, Texas this community boasts some pretty impressive corporate clients. In fact, the community was designed specifically for that purpose. It grew from what was basically the one time ranch of a guy named Ben Carpenter. Las Colinas also happens to be the skyline you used to see in the opening sequence of that old TV show ‘Dallas’. Yes – I am a little nervous that I have already mentioned 2 TV shows in 2 paragraphs.

When Ben decided to convert his land into a thriving hotbed of Fortune 500 activity, he also wanted to leave a l’il bit of Ol’ Texas feeling, so he commissioned a sculpture which would be the centerpiece of the town’s plaza. A darn nice sculpture, for a town of darn nice people! It was created and installed in the center of a fountain and it represents a group of wild mustangs charging through a river. It is truly beautiful, and really could make you forget that you are standing a stone’s throw from the HQ of Verizon, Kimberly-Clark, and ResearchInMotion.

Although the area was pretty busy during the time I visited, I was able to get a few neat angles of the sculpture. Over the next couple of days, I will share some more from my visit to Dallas. And I hope you enjoy these photos! This particular one has been given some new processing techniques I have been working on. As always, I’d love to hear what you think!
